{{first_name}},
Everyone shows their best part of their life.
I won't do that.
Instead I’ll show you my worst.
Two months ago, I had zero control over myself.
I always had this urge to consume cheap pleasure.
Scrolling
Unnecessary Hangouts
Music
Netflix
Checking the phone first thing in the morning
Staying up late for no real reason
Eating junk while watching something
I used to do all of these things everyday.
You can say I was a lazy rat with all sorts of pleasure.
(Expect the real happiness)
So I did what everyone says.
Set better alarms.
Dopamine detox.
I even put my phone in the locker to avoid getting distracted.
But I still end up repeating the same things which I didn't want.
It was like pulling back myself just like a rubber band.
Do you know why I couldn't avoid getting cheap pleasure?
Because I was trying.
Which sounds like progress…
but it makes you comfortable.
If you're trying, failing is allowed.
You always get another chance tomorrow.
It's just like playing a game knowing you can restart again.
So,
I stopped trying.
I stopped trying to change.
I stopped trying EVERYTHING.
As a result, I'm waking up at 5:30 in the morning everyday without an alarm.
(I'm writing this email at 6:27am today)
But the important thing is…
I've changed a lot.
I don't feel tempted anymore.
So,
You fail because you never made anything part of your identity.
Stop trying.
Start becoming.
Your friend,
Zaid.
